Peter Linksted, the British Junior Canoe Slalom Champion, sponsored by CST Global, placed 15th at the European Championships in Hohenlimburg, Germany (16th to 20th August), missing out on the finals by just 2 seconds.

Peter gives a brief update, “My preparation for the European Championships could not have been better. Following my 9th place at the world championships, I visited some key canoe slalom courses across Europe for practice, experience and reconnaissance. These included the Prague national course and a Czech national ranking race at Roudnice, where I came second overall in the canoe category. My trip culminated in practice time on the Hohenlimburg course, in Germany, where the Europeans were to be held, ahead of the competition itself.

“The Hohenlimburg course has a narrow channel towards the end, creating a large technical and physical challenge. During the championships, I put down a clear run in the heats to qualify for the semi-finals in 15th place. However, in my semi-final run I made a costly mistake in the channel, leaving me 2 seconds off the final qualification time. I finished 15th Junior.

“I look forward to returning to Hohenlimburg to show my real capability, but accept races don’t always go to plan! However, I am satisfied with the reconnaissance trip and will draw on the fantastic experience I have had for up-coming events.”
