Gaining high-profile coverage in the industry leading publication.

Optimum made the front cover of Compound Semiconductor Magazine with an article entitled, “Shrinking atomic clocks with GaN Lasers”. It is a highly technical article for a specialist market, based on a white paper by Dr. Thomas Slight, but an example of our technical capability.

Gallium Nitride (GaN) laser diodes are key components in a range of applications. A single wavelength, distributed feedback (DFB), GaN laser diode, with high spectral purity and wavelength selectivity is particularly desirable in emerging application areas of optical fibre communications and atomic clocks. The article covers how blue laser sources can be used to laser cool atoms. Another possible application is for free space communications, where their narrow optical output could enable solar, background-free operation when narrow-band filtering is used.
